My students are 6th graders that learn literacy from the workshop model. This model relies heavily on independent reading. My students receive 100% free and reduced lunch and live in an under served community. Despite their circumstances, overall they understand the importance of their education. They are hard workers but many are disinterested in reading because they are below level or my library just does not have books that interest them (especially boys). This would be a wonderful opportunity to allow my students to grow and discover all that a good book has to offer.
