My students come from homes where literacy is seriously neglected. Most of my students come from homes where books were scarce and they were not read to prior to attending school. So as 3rd grade students, they do not have experience talking about character traits, types of conflict, author's craft, and any literary discussions. Moreover, their writing skill is also deficient due to their limited literary knowledge.
