For the last seven years, I have been fortunate to teach at the same high school that I attended. Four years ago I began teaching the 10th grade Pre-AP class. This is a British Literature class which begins in the Anglo-Saxon Era with Beowulf, and ends in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. My students need and want to be exposed to challenging and diverse works of literature. My class centers around the discussions that take place after reading these texts. My students are also asked to look at the tradition of the writers in each time period and see how their techniques have progressed and evolved. The characteristics of each time period, including the social and political aspects, are then used to support the analysis of the text.
