I teach a group of students who are ages 5 to 10, and all of them are medically fragile. I have 5 students in my classroom. Some can walk, and some are in wheelchairs. Most of my students have seizures, intellectual disabilities, and feeding tubes. Although they have so many physical and mental limitations, they teach me more every day than I could EVER teach them. My students always have smiles on their faces, love everyone, accept everyone, and attempt every challenge, no matter how difficult it may be for them. My students want what every other child wants. They want to be loved and accepted for who they are on the inside, not what they look like on the outside. They love expressing themselves through the arts. They love music, dancing, painting, and coloring. My medically fragile students in a self-contained classroom love school, and my school loves them. My school is an amazing elementary school that embraces every child and strives to find ways to help every child achieve academically.
