Think of an area in your home where you gather with your family or friends; perhaps it is the kitchen or the dining room table. It is here where you connect with people and share your lives, a place you come back to again and again; the heart of your home. In the classroom such a place is our carpet. It is here where we start and end our day, come together to experience amazing books and challenge each other in our thinking. The carpet is the heart of our classroom! Your donation will enable our class to have a place to come together as a community of learners. Our current carpet is small and does not provide enough room for all students. I have remedied this situation in the past by purchasing carpet squares to add on to our space. While this provided each student with somewhere to sit, it did nothing for creating a sense of one community. Having a carpet that is large enough will ensure that we all have a place together. Kids need space to sprawl out with a good book, enough room to meet with their writing partners and comfort when we all gather to read together. It is here that friendships will be formed, opinions expressed and conflicts resolved. This carpet will be the heart of our classroom.
