I teach at very young performing arts secondary school. Donations are the reasons we are able to run as a full Arts department. We love putting on shows, especially musicals, but where all departments can collaborate together to entertain a growing community. The students love performing for their love ones and community members because shows (especially theater) is not often seen or performed for them. Many families can't afford to see a show in the theater district and are thrilled when they can experience a show at our school. The performing arts department has organized rehearsals and performances for students during after school hours, which continues has now become a norm in the school schedule, versus a distraction. There are at least 60 to 80 students (Grades 6th-12th) that would love to join a drama club or performance choir, but are not satisfied with just performing in our Black Box space.
