My students are energetic, feisty middle schoolers who so desperately want to get an education, not only for themselves but also for their families. Many of them hope to be the first person in their family to go to college, but feel as if they do not have the means to do so. My students are lucky enough to be at a school that issues iPads to them free of charge, but because of their family's financial struggles, I often have students saying that they are unable to use their iPad because their family cannot afford to pay for a charger. This makes it difficult for students with a tough home life to fit in considering that all of their peers are able to use their iPads in class to support their education. As a seventh grade teacher, my students read at a fourth grade level on average so it is extremely important that we remediate their reading and writing skills at this formative time and the iPad offers a great deal of programming that makes this possible. My kids appreciate you!
