My students are high school students grades 9th-12th grade. Before coming to this school the students did not participate in any physical activity during P.E. so most of them run from any type of physical fitness. The students come from low poverty and do not understand the concept of healthy living. Our school is one of the lowest income schools in Oklahoma and it is predominately Hispanic and African American. Students have absolutely no concept of hard work and what it takes to be successful and they try to take the easy route in everything they do. Most of my students do not have the opportunity of enjoying a meal at home and the only meal they do enjoy is at school, which is not completely healthy either. They do what they know how to do to survive and I would like to help them understand that there is a lot more to life besides failure and under achievement. A lot of my students do not feel good about themselves and with exercise and healthy eating I know this can help.
