We have very little technology in our classroom. I have 24 students, but we have enough computers for less than a third of them. My goal is to give every student a computer to use in the classroom daily. Our classroom curriculum is constantly moving towards technology needs every day. In order to help my students to compete with students from more affluent schools for the same jobs, I want to give them access to technology in the classroom. My students are perfectly capable of learning the basics that will lead them into the engineering, coding, and other computer-centered jobs of the future. They just don't have the tools they need. My hope is that we can build a collection of computers in our classroom so that all students will have access to one. We do lessons using Google Classroom and Google Apps that help students become better versed in the technology language of the day. We learn by seeing, hearing, and doing. My kids are missing out on the "doing" part of it. If every child had access to a computer, they could research topics that interest them, complete coding assignments individually, and write amazing essays to submit to me digitally for more streamlined writing and grading. In this day and age, the most successful classrooms are those that have one-to-one access to technology.
