The 58 children on my speech-language therapy caseload are an amazing group. They are extremely diverse and come from rich cultures and backgrounds. Many of these students are learning English as a second language and come from homes that speak a variety of languages, including Spanish, Mongolian, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Ethiopian. The school is Title I and serves a low-income population and neighborhood and some of the children don't have access to technology at home. The students on my caseload have been diagnosed with Autism, cognitive delays, speech and language disorders, and other developmental delays. Some of the students are learning their sounds while others are learning how to sequence, retell a story, or use pronouns. Others might be learning how to use skills such as easy onset to help control and monitor stuttering. All of these skills are essential for an appropriate and accessible education. These children are passionate and deserve every tool possible to succeed.
