Our classroom library is a hit with the students! Not only does it have books for the students to choose from and enjoy, but it also has two bean bag chairs, a larger comfy chair, and large pillows for them to relax while reading. They love this space and the comfort it provides them! With these new book sets, my students will have a larger variety of exciting readers to choose from, allowing all students to read independently and without frustration. Reading independently is an important aspect of one of our Daily 5 rotations called Read-to-Self. Students are asked to get cozy in our library, cuddle up with one of our stuffed book buddies, grab a whisper phone (if needed), and find a book that is on or near their reading level. These books should also interest them so that they can spend this rotation happily Reading-to-Self! Each student also gets to "shop" in our library once a week to update their reading bags. These bags consist of two leveled readers of my choice, and two books of their choice to read throughout the week. They get SO excited to shop for new books! I listened to my group talk about what type of books they look for when "shopping" (lots of pictures, chapter books, funny, relatable, similar to our read-alouds (hence the Roald Dahl collection!) etc.) and used those conversations to help choose the books that you see in this project request.
