Our students are ready to engage their city with a project like the one we are planning. They have been at our school 2 years already and are getting ready for senior year where they will have to do an individual year-long project where they choose a particular community need, research it, develop a theory of action, and implement a solution. We hope to have prepared them for that intense work this year by engaging in a slightly different but similar project with a group format instead of individual work. They are an intelligent, committed, socially conscious, and collaborative cohort who are eager to do a project that is about the city they love and means giving back to their city. We have met with them over the summer to ask them what they would like to work on and they have developed with us the idea of a project where they get to work in their city to propose solutions to actual problems. This is as much their project as it is ours.
