Manipulatives keep my 7 and 8 year old mathematicians engaged. "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn."~Benjamin Franklin. This quote encourages me to provide many opportunities in my classroom for my students to learn math using a variety of manipulatives. Our Second grade class is set in a rural community. Our school has a focus on rigor for every student. I teach a diverse class with differing abilities and challenges. I strive to create a classroom community where it is safe to make mistakes, share, and learn together. It is my goal to make my students first years of elementary school one where they gain a full understanding of number concepts, the concepts of addition and, and how they are related!
