For many years, I have been working on building up my classroom library to give my students as big of a variety of books as I possibly can. Books for girls are always the easiest to come by. For my 7 and 8 year old boys, however, this can be a challenge. I am doing this project to help get more interesting nonfiction texts for the boys in my class now and in future classes. Please help supply us with more books on sports, weather, insects, and dinosaurs. I asked my boys what type of books they would like to see in our library and these were the topics that won! I love being able to give my students more choice within our classroom library and expose them to as many resources as I possibly can. Students use these books during our small group reading time, as well as throughout the day when they finish an assignment early or we have a free reading time. They love being able to pick out what we call a "free choice book", but the lack of books in the categories listed above tend to lead my boys to not want to pick. These books will give them more options when it is time for their free choice picks and expose them to more information on these subjects!
