My students come from a high poverty background; their families struggle. I want my student to know that they can be or do anything. They just need to work hard, learn all they can, and believe in themselves. When my 5th grade students come to my class we focus on academic skills but we also focus on life skills, how to improve yourself, manners, and I build their self confidence. Many students come to school with low self esteem because they may struggle in math or reading. I show them that they can do it and we celebrate their improvements whether they are figuring out a division problem for the first time or reading a chapter book and understanding what was read. I believe in my students and am so proud of them.
