My students are Spanish speaking just like me. I might have native english speaker too. I always try and make my students feel comfortable in my classroom and with me. There were times that instead of calling me "maestra" they will say "mami" which means mom. When this happens it lets me knows that they see me more than just a lady standing there. They see me as an important role in their life. My school serves a big population of low classes community. Therefore, I am always working hard to maintain them engaged and looking for materials that will help them succeed. My school is a complete community. As teachers go, we are open to suggestions and cooperate with one another.
