My students are in middle school in an urban school district. Our class is called "100 Book Challenge". In the past, it was called reading support. Last year the students came to me and shared that they hated the name of the class and felt it was too negative. I took a vote and the kids decided on a new name for our class. It is titled after the program that we use in our district. They are in my class because they are working on becoming better readers. These students stay in my class for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. They can "test out" by working hard and achieving their goal of reading on grade level. When they first came to my class, they hated everything about books. In fact, they hated even being in a room with the thousands of books that I have. After some time, they have come around and found that reading can be incredible. My students have become readers.
