I have roughly 150 students from rural Alabama. They are eager to learn and do well in school. Being educated is very important to them. A large majority of them will go on to higher education, most of them with educational scholarships. We are a small school that operates like a close family. 95% of our graduates started in kindergarten with us. We are roughly 50% Caucasian & 50% African American. We have a few Koreans sprinkled in the mix. The last couple of years at Luverne has resulted in the highest test scores possible due to a change in teaching styles & methods. Our students critical thinking skills have deepened & working via technology has played a role in that. We have focused greatly on technology. All teachers are equipped with iPads and now all 8-12th graders have personal iPads & K4-7th graders have access to class sets of iPads. It has changed the way we teach and what we expect from our children. We are even seeing immense gains in the Special Ed learning goals.
