Many of the 2nd grade students in my school live at levels below the poverty level. The population is mainly homogeneous. The diversity they see mainly comes from sources steeped in popular media, most with only the one purpose of entertaining. My students need to be exposed to the colors and diversities of the world. My students need to learn about global issues in culture and science, the arts and technology. Sparking their curiosity is the first step in growing their understanding of and tolerance for diversity.

About my class
