Traditionally, the students are supposed to be a sponge. The teacher tells them information and they suck it up. However, that is not the real world. I strive to actively engage my Kindergartners' learning about things in their community and doing projects that they care about is giving them ownership of their learning. It is about making them life-long learners. I give them the opportunities to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while applying them as soon as they walk out of my classroom and into the real world. Asking questions like: What are resources? When you want to find something out, what do you do? They learn to be empowered and not have always go to an adult, and just have them feed you all the information you know. Children have to learn to be a problem solver. And they have to be resourceful. And I have to keep them excited about the process of learning.
