My students are starved for enrichment to their lives and are very excited to do art projects in my room. Very few of them ever leave their small geographic area, even to go to the library. When I can manage it, I try to get them out for field trips, but often, even a OTB video of an interesting subject is enough to get them out of their small bubble and thinking globally. Most of my students are very nature-starved and I have been incorporating the natural sciences into our art and writing projects because I feel that exposure to the natural world helps with cognitive skills and attention spans in children. I like to get them out of the classroom to learn and draw and write.
