My school has 50% free and reduced lunch. These are students who come from families that cannot afford school supplies and calculators. A lot of students do not come to school with the instilled desire to go to college. Many do not have home lives that foster learning and promote education. Most students come into the classroom thinking this is yet another class that makes them sit still, memorize material, and gives tests. My students have inconsistent attendance and need a lot of support.
