Our high school is a semi-urban school of approximately 1,200 students. My students are lovely, diverse, and smart individuals, and about 75% of them qualify for free-and-reduced lunch. I am lucky to teach a number of courses that let me discuss intrinsically interesting topics with my students: American Studies English, Intro and AP Psychology, Social Justice, and Exploratory Learning. I also co-sponsor a Habitat for Humanity Club that takes a group of students to Mississippi each year on a service-learning trip, and I am the faculty editor of our high school's arts/literature magazine.
