Please help our students have a library that welcomes them and gives them a cozy place to read and learn. Our students love to be able to stretch out on a nice, clean carpet that's also large enough for a whole class to sit on while they listen to an interesting story. It makes seating a large group so much easier and each child has his own space. They love being together, close enough to see the pictures and have a class discussion when we finish the book. Another way to help the library be a "place you WANT to be" is better lighting. We have glaring fluorescent light fixtures and no natural light at all. Research shows that fluorescent lights cause headaches, stress, fatigue, and eye strain; none of which helps learning. Covers for our fluorescent lighting will calm the environment and help the students feel like learning. I don't want the lighting to add to stress felt elsewhere. It will make our library warm and welcoming, where children want to be.
