Our school is set in a suburban neighborhood. Large numbers of our students participate in after school sports and attend a wide variety of clubs. Over the last few years, our demographics have changed. Last year, 41% of our students qualified for free and reduced price lunches. Many of my students also come from families that speak another language at home. My classes include students that qualify for special education and need extra assistance. The diversity of my students makes the classroom a wonderful place for all of us to learn science from different perspectives. Students learn to work in teams on a regular basis as they explore concepts in 6th grade science. In the past, when lunar eclipses occurred near the beginning of the year, the students became excited about learning science. The real life experience led them to become engaged in finding out how scientific phenomena occur. The students this year have an amazing opportunity to experience and learn from the October partial solar eclipse.
