My middle school students are learning to become contributing members of the community when they come to my classroom. They come from low-income households, and are often second language learners. Many of them have learning disabilities related to either reading or math or both. They can also have other disabilities like Autism, health concerns, and intellectual struggles. Along with the academic subjects like language arts, math, social studies and science, we learn personal care, social skills, and job preparation skills daily. I feel responsible to ensure that they are able to comprehend, communicate, and contribute in the 21st century.
