Our students come to our school looking for a second chance at education and often an opportunity to prove wrong those who thought they would never amount to anything. Many were pushed out of one or multiple schools for various reasons. Often, they are stigmatized with the label of "teen drop-out" and all the stereotypes associated with that label. However, our students have amazing talents and resiliency. They come from an education system that has failed them and, as a result, many enter deficient in both reading and writing. With these resources, students will be able to use these books to read during our Sustained Silent Reading class and at home. Students will practice reading at their independent level in order to develop reading skills and fluency. In addition, they will have access to a variety of books that speak to their lived experiences. Students will also take Accelerated Reading quizzes so we can monitor comprehension and engage them in authentic reading experiences.
