New research shows that young learners benefit from flexible seating options to sustain their attention and engagement. Flexible seating allows students to make a choice in their learning. When my first grade students are allowed to choose their seating option, they have ownership and responsibility in the learning that is taking place. Students sitting in a row by row formation all day simply cannot meet the needs of a modern classroom. Flexible seating will provide my students with a student centered learning environment. Students will be able to use the seat of their choice during collaborative activities, as well as independent activities. I look forward to seeing the positive effects that this will have on my classroom environment!
