My students reside in a low-socioeconomic, urban area. My students have a variety of disabilities and most have very limited skills. Most come from Spanish speaking families and many do not have expressive language either. Despite these limitations, in our K-2, 12:1:1 classroom, our educational team strives to set our children up for success. That said, my students rely heavily on visual supports in order to remain as independent as possible. Having visual supports readily available allows my students to follow task schedules and maintain organizational skills, among many other things. Additionally, my students benefit from consistent stimulation. They require frequent sensory input in order to remain focused and on task. With visual and sensory supports in place, my students are able to achieve their maximum potential while having fun!
