I am an elementary teacher and I work for a title one school. The students who attend my school mostly come from families who are socially and economically disadvantaged. Not only are my students poor, but most of them are learning English as their second language. In addition, the families they came from are mostly single parents who work long hours to make ends meet. As a result, most of these parents are unable to help their children to complete their homework. Since they are performing at a lower level, my teaching support and a well enriched classroom environment are their only way out. As a teacher, I am very concerned about their progress and I believe that they can be successful if I can provide a variety of hands-on activities in the classroom to spark their curiosity. These activities will help them perform at a higher level and they will be able to meet their end of year expectation. I really hope that this project will make that dream come true.
