EPSA is a school only for students 2 or more years behind grade level. The result of those multiple years behind is that my students hate school, have internalized that they are failures, and have completely lost hope. If they have a space where they learn to love school again, that will change. I want to build a Culture and Community Corner where my students can feel safe in the classroom, and even be excited about returning everyday. My school is old and I just finished repainting my classroom because we had neither the funds nor the manpower for it to happen otherwise. I am trying every way possible to make our school, especially my classroom, look as much like a school that I would want to go to as a child. Schools should be filled with joy and urgency for learning. My hope is that this Culture and Community Corner will bring us one step closer to a school wide environment that reflects the culture one would see in the top-performing elementary schools in the country.
