As an IB PK-5 school located in Atlanta, Georgia, we believe that it is essential to teach the whole child. There is a diverse population of students so it is imperative to look at and solve problems with an international mindset. Students are taught how to show compassion for others while reflecting on their own thoughts and feelings. In efforts to remain globally competitive, technology is critical to the daily instruction of our students! In addition to computers being used for communication, they also support typing skills. The upcoming 2014-2015 high-stakes assessment will require students to complete constructed responses (open-ended) to fully assess comprehension. In other words, they will be presented with a question where a typed response will be required. Therefore, I feel it is necessary to teach typing skills to ensure overall mastery.
