My second graders are eager to learn. Their favorite time in our classroom is social studies, because they have the chance to discuss serious issues, like discrimination and American history. They have aspirations of becoming teachers, policemen, firefighters, and artists and they know what it takes to get there. With 92% of our students on the free and reduced price lunch plan, attending a school affected by extreme poverty, these children already have so many odds against them. But, instead of complaining, they take pride in their school and make the best of what they have. These students work so hard day in and day out to develop the skills they need to succeed. Many of my students will be first generation graduates and they won't stop until they get there!
