The numbers and statistics of my school paint a dejected picture. We are a Title I school with more than 3/4 of our students on free or reduced lunches (though this year all students eat for free). 100% of the students I teach are African-American and my schools graduation rate is sub-par, to say the least. From the outside, we are a failing public school. On the inside, we have strong leadership who have turned our school around in the last four years. Our test scores have been steadily rising and we are now ranked the number two high school (of seven) in our district. My students are all brilliant. They have brains and wit that have yet to be molded for optimal success. My students want to go to college, they want to provide for their families and it is my every intention to give them all of the tool necessary to do so.
