My students are a very diverse group. Some are in stable homes, while others are in families experiencing a crisis (divorce, loss of job, cancer or other medical illness, transient, etc.). My students vary academically from some who are already reading and writing on a college level to others who cannot read independently on an 8th grade level. Although, they are different, they share vitally important universal attributes: a need to be accepted and loved unconditionally exactly as they are, to be encouraged daily to do their best, and to be challenged to overcome obstacles of life. A recent obstacle faced by my school and families is the string of tornadoes that hit our area this past May. Our school will still be rebuilding as students return to the classroom Monday. Some of my students' families had homes damaged or destroyed by the tornadoes. Together, we will overcome and be "Eagle Strong."
