Our school is located in a rural community in Kansas. We have lots of blue collar families that are hard working, yet have low incomes. Many of our students don't come to school with proper supplies and I try to provide as much as possible out of my own pocket. As a homeroom 6th grade teacher I am responsible for language arts, social studies, science, and art. We level students for math and reading classes. I teach lower level math and reading courses because I have a background in special education. Although challenging, I enjoy working with struggling learners. My goal each school year is to try to get them to enjoy school. Many students that have struggled in the past, do not like school by the time they get to 6th grade. My goal is to find something that engages and interests them to help motivate them to learn.
