With a subscription to Storyworks Jr., my students will receive several issues of high-interest, culturally relevant reading materials that infuse excitement and meaning into their reading lives. Each issue contains thrilling nonfiction, paired texts, read-aloud plays, short fiction, poetry, debates, and short informational texts. These rigorous but accessible texts motivate even the most reluctant readers. Most importantly, the reading materials belong to the students. Storyworks Jr. increases reading comprehension, vocabulary development, reading fluency and stamina, and writing skills across a variety of genres. Each issue comes with more than 30 rigorous skill-building activities along with the differentiation tools needed to meet the unique needs of every learner, including knowledge-building videos; audio read-alouds; vocabulary slideshows with audio-visual supports; articles and activities offered on different levels; and guided writing prompts. The multimedia supports are particularly useful for reaching English-Language Learners and struggling readers. The magazine can be effectively used for individualized, small-group, or whole-class instruction, as well as for extended learning opportunities after school or at home. We would LOVE to have it in our classroom!
