The 36 students entering this classroom have done so because they, along with their families, felt compelled to seek an educational option that puts science at the forefront of learning. As a new charter (K-6 for 2014-15) that has been founded on the premise of project-based STEAM learning, science is a required 45 minute class every day. Every child will be taught to the highest levels of Bloom's Taxonomy on the North Carolina Science Standards. Additionally, students will be encouraged to use real-life problems to delve deeply into each standard and analyze, apply, and create meaningful experiments to enhance their learning. For that reason, much of the available funding has been used to enhance the technology and equipment necessary to conduct experiments. At this time, there are no funds to supply supplementary science books in our classroom nor a school library from which students can enhance their understanding of science topics.
