The phonics workbooks will allow my students to practice the skills that they are being taught within the classroom to set them up for success when beginning to read, as well as beginning to learn English. These workbooks provide the scope and sequence of Phonics instruction that supplements the phonics instruction that the students receive from direct instruction during the school day. However, the missing piece is the ability to practice these skills independently, which are not provided by the district. My goal is to create proficient readers by the end of second grade to send them to third grade fully prepared to comprehend a variety of texts without struggling with decoding of words when reading.
