My students are studying a foreign language for the first time, and need resources in order to be able to bridge the gap between their culture and the culture they are learning about. I am a first year teacher teaching Japanese Language at a low-income elementary/middle school. The school I am teaching at has failed to meet No Child Left Behind standards multiple years in a row, and has converted to a charter school and retained a class of 7th graders. In order to enrich the education of these 7th graders, the school has hired me to teach Japanese Language and Culture, but I am unable to do so without proper resources which the school cannot afford to equip me with. The 7th graders are being modeled into student leaders, and need as much help as they can get in order to help restructure the culture of my school and give all students in attendance an opportunity at an excellent education.
