Our school is a local treasure in our small town in Louisiana. It is packed with history. We have students of diverse backgrounds. We are a Title I school meaning more than half of our population receives free or reduced-price lunch. My personal students range from students who receive special education service to students who receive honors classes through our AIM program. My students have many different interests and hobbies, but somehow in our room we manage to come together as a family. They are quite competitive and this comes out as they strive to reach Accelerated Reader Goals and Point Clubs. I want my students to want to read, not just have to read. You can find us reading in comfy places around our room, reading and taking AR quizzes, grabbing a book from our book center, reading with a buddy, or even listening to a great story on the computer. Novels provide the excitement to spark the crucial reading instruction in my classroom.
