In core subjects, students are often placed in ability-based classes, such as gifted and talented. In ITE classes, there is a wonderful blend of students from all ability levels, intelligences, socioeconomic status, race, gender, and interests. At our school, ITE is a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education class. During the past few years, I have made efforts to get underrepresented minority students more involved in ITE and engineering opportunities outside of the classroom.
