My students are part of a district with a changing demographic. We are in a rural location, on the edge of East Dallas. This means that our district serves corn farmers and goat farmers... while at the same time section 8 housing goes up to accommodate a growing influx of urban families relocating. We are a school with a serious clash in cultures. Everyday in Texas, our population of Spanish speakers rises, to mix with our urban population and our rural population. Our school is a family--which is why we have been so successful at integrating new families and cultures into our school thus far. Many of our teachers graduated from our school, and teach alongside their old teachers and mentors who are still here, all these years later. We have a poor tax base of farms and section 8 housing, so our school and our district have made sacrifices in many ways to ensure that the best of our $ is spent on our students.
