Teaching at a school with 80% of the students living at or below the poverty line has many challenges. I teach many children who come from inner cities, refugee camps, and households without stability. One of the biggest challenges my students face is lack of exposure. In low income families, education is not always the highest priority. Instead, families focus on surviving the day-to-day. This translates into children who do not get exposure to as much technology as students from middle income and affluent families. Giving low income students technology, such as ipads, can help these students compete with other children in a world in which is becoming more and more infused with technology. The students in my second grade class have the capability to become successful. However, they need the tools to help them succeed.
