I am asking for class sets of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Maniac Magee and The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963. These well written classic books will allow me to teach students the necessary reading skills for them to be successful in their future education and career. My students have not been exposed to the same experiences that private school students are exposed to. I want to be able to bring those experiences to my students, in the form of great literature. Reading is fundamental and one of my jobs as a teacher is to encourage students to read books that they find interesting- creating a love of reading. If the books that I put in front of my students are boring and they cannot connect to the plot or characters, they will never reach their full potential. The books I have chosen will allow my students to connect with the characters and peak their interest.
