Every day we do a morning meeting in my 3rd grade classroom to build a learning community and share our goals and learning expectations for the day. The students favorite activity is our Current Events slide--what is happening in our classroom (birthdays or school events, our home (what happens at home last night, sports events they are in, etc.), our state and our country. My students have lots to contribute about their own home and school but never know what's going on in the world. I get on websites and we look at hurricane news or crucial events happening in our world! Most of my students have little knowledge of what is even happening in our community let alone the world. These Scholastic News magazines can cater to their fascination and expose them to our wonderful world!
