Our school is in a turn-around effort, located in an urban city with a high population of students who have immigrated from the Dominican Republic. In a test centered environment our students receive limited opportunities for movement breaks and to express themselves through play. Yoga and Mindfulness assist students in their learning and life goals. I teach my students strategies to calm the mind, expand their creativity, build self confidence, and develop self-control. The population attending my school experiences difficult life events and yoga and mindfulness class has been a beneficial outlet for these children.
