Research shows that most classroom libraries do not have books that are accessible for beginning readers to use to guide them along their successful reading journey. This leads to frustration and feeling like a failure before they have even really started to read. While I do have a wide variety of book topics, many of them are too difficult for my beginning readers to read independently. This project will help me change all that. Not only will my students be able to read books on their reading level, they will also be able to read books independently to learn more about the topics we are studying in first grade, such as living things, weather, and sound. The sense of accomplishment and knowledge gained will propel my students to read more and more. My goal is to foster my students' natural love of reading and learning by helping them feel successful as they move along their journey of becoming great readers!
