It is said that "New Orleans has become a laboratory for education reform since Hurricane Katrina." Well I believe that my scholars are more than just an experiment. They all have a bright future ahead of them, which can be attained through a love of reading and a quality literacy experience! My scholars are an amazing group of 2nd graders who arrive at school each and every day ready to learn and face new challenges. From my initial meeting with them to the first day of school, I felt that it was my duty to foster their love for reading and instill in them the importance of literacy. They attend a public charter school in New Orleans, which is still transforming on a day to day basis due to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, along with being a part of a school system that has long been described as simply "inadequate." My scholars hail from low-income, single parent homes, with the exception of a few who have the support of both parents. But overall, these scholars are motivated!
