If you came to my classroom room you would hear laughter, you would see creative chaos all around, along with 2 guinea pigs (Captain Bean and Sweet Pea) running around on the floor! I teach an AMAZING group of kids who are caring, helpful, funny, and intelligent. I hear on a daily basis, "Can I straighten the bookcase? Can I push in the chairs? Can I help her with her locker? Can I share what I learned last night that connects to....?" These are my kids. They love learning, & they share what they have learned with others. They are respectful because their parents have taught them to be so. Some face unbelievable challenges (at home, & in their environment) but everyday they come to school & they come to learn. I make it a point to laugh along with them, & if they are sad or mad, I also make it a point to let them know that it's OK to feel that way but it's what you do afterwards that decides the person you are.
